This bench at the trail was made in Blairsville, PA by HMS Industries.

With the number of seeds the each knotweed plant produces it is easy to see why this plant has become so highly invasive throughout our region.

The Bairdstown Bridge that exists today appears in the left of the photo. Thew older iron bridge to the right was removed after completion of the new bridge.

Early Season Bike Ride

Most of the Blairsville Riverfront Trail is completely flat but the far western end of the trail near the Bairdstown Bridge has a hill to climb.

This photo came to us via Linda Gwinn of Blairsville, PA. Blairsville is an historic town with connections to the PA Canal era and the early days of railroads in Indiana County. Much of the downtown area still retains its historic architecture.

June 2015 has been a rainy month. Twice this month the Blairsville Riverfront Trail has been flooded on the Bairdstown Bridge end of the trail. The remainder of the 1.7 mile trail remains open.

The larva phase of the Red Salamander is shown in this photo. They will remain in the larva phase for a year or two before they take on theri characteristic bright red color and move onto land. In the fall and early winter the Red Salamander returns to streams or seeps with moving water that do not freeze.

This image of Blairsville dates from 1871. The bridge shown is the Bairdstown Bridge that replaced a covered bridge that once was located here. The iron bridge shown was later replaced with a larger iron bridge that exists at the site today. Note the gazebo that appears in the image, a gazebo still exists here today but it is a newer one replaced after many years of absence.
