About 85 people participated in the Walkworks program at Blue Spruce Park on Saturday, February 11, 2017. During the walk, we stopped on the Getty run Trail to try our 'hand' at feeding the Chickadees, Nuthatches and Tufted Titmice. After the walk we enjoyed some great chili at the Lakeside Center.

Our parks and park facilities are often used as settings for small weddings and photo opportunities.

There are two types of Bittersweet found here, the American Bittersweet and a non-native invasive variety.
To tell them apart, look at their stems. The invasive oriental bittersweet has smooth stems, while the American bittersweet has blunt thorns.
You can also look where their berries are found. The American bittersweet has berries at the tip of its vines, while the invasive variety has berries that grow all along the vine.

You won't find this mural at one of our parks, it is located on Carpenter Avenue in Indiana, PA. Edward Abbey was born in Indiana, PA, although he often told people he was born in Home, PA. Although best known as a writer of the American west his childhood in Appalachia remained influential to him throughout his life.

The location is where the North and South Branches of Blacklick Creek merge together.
